COLORADO SPRINGS – As the city welcomes thousands of firefighters and families for Saturday’s IAFF Fallen Firefighter Memorial – more than 7,000 people – there are some traffic impacts you need to know about.

An hour before the ceremony starts at 11:00 a.m., there is a procession of emergency vehicles that goes through the city. It starts at University Village shopping center on N. Nevada Avenue and travels south. As it goes there are rolling roadblocks. The procession turns east on Colorado Avenue and ends at Memorial Park.

At the corner of the park where the Firefighter Memorial is located there are several roadblocks from morning to late afternoon. “Starting at Union and Pikes Peak going down from Pike Peak to Institute,” said Jones. Then Hancock is closed for a block on either side of Pikes Peak Avenue.

Parking is on the streets in nearby neighborhoods. “Park and walk in,” said Jones. For family and firefighters staying at event hotels, shuttles will run to minimize parking issues.
