COLORADO SPRINGS – Stanton Road near the University of Colorado Colorado Springs has been used as a shortcut by students and the community for years.

However, the road is now only accessible to residents and emergency personnel. The City of Colorado Springs is building a computerized gate on Stanton Road in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. City workers said as the campus has continued to expand traffic has significantly increased on this street. Another problem is speeding, making this once quiet road pretty dangerous.

Kathleen Krager, division manager of traffic engineering for the City of Colorado Springs, said, “We needed to do something to protect the neighborhood and not change the classification of the street, and the easiest thing to do was to put a gate south of the Eagle Rock neighborhood and north of UCCS.”

Krager said the gate will be completed by the end of this week. Bikers, pedestrians, and small UCCS maintenance vehicles will be able to pass through. Krager added that UCCS is working to eventually build a connector road from the North Nevada Campus to Main Campus to hopefully makes things easier for students.
