PUEBLO — According to the Pueblo Health Department, the city's 65-year old and up population who choose to could be completely vaccinated as early as the end of this week. Tuesday is "last call" to sign-up on Pueblovaxnow.com

“Yesterday, when we were scheduling for today’s clinic, we were trying to get to 1,500 and we had to call 2,700 people to get 1,500 of them because roughly 800 of them said they had gotten their vaccine somewhere else!" said Pueblo Health Director Randy Evetts.

When Governor Jared Polis originally announced that teachers and those 65+ could begin receiving vaccinations, many expected a roll-out backup, as Pueblo was still in the process of vaccinating the 70+ population.

"To think ahead of getting even through the 70+ was daunting, but now, I really think we’ve kind of figured out some process and we have our wings under us and I’m excited.”

Now that pharmacies like Walmart and King Soopers have began administering the vaccine, getting shots in the arms of people eligible in Pueblo is more accessible than ever before. On the health department's website a list is available of all of the entities offering COVID-19 vaccines, besides the health department's mass vaccination clinic located at the Pueblo Mall. Links are available to each of the pharmacies as well in order to schedule an appointment.

As of February 18, 2021, the county's health department reports that 21,897 people in Pueblo have received their first vaccination and 11,638 have received their second dose. Pueblo is still currently in Phase 1A and 1B.

However, Evetts says that this is no time to get lazy when it comes to safety precautions.

“It’s still important to maintain social distance and wear the masks and all those things."

Those coming to the Pueblo Mall to get vaccinated are also highly encouraged to fill out and bring the registration form with them in order to expedite the vaccine process.
