Gov. Jared Polis reads to students at Trailblazer Elementary. He hopes to implement free, all-day kindergarten for all children in Colorado.

COLORADO SPRINGS – Governor Jared Polis visited District 11’s Trailblazer Elementary School. It’s one of several stops he’s making across the state in his push for free, all-day kindergarten for every student in Colorado.

The governor says kindergarten is just as important as first grade.

“If we really want to end these achievement gaps based on income level and based on race,” said Governor Polis. “It’s really important that every child get a strong start.”

Polis says the free, all-day kindergarten plan would cost $227 million, and could be paid for by an improved forecast on property tax collections.
