Kansas zookeeper recovering after tiger attack

(KSNT/NBC News) A zookeeper attacked Saturday by a tiger at Kansas’ Topeka Zoo is out of intensive care.

The Topeka Zoo held a press conference on Sunday to discuss the attack.

Zoo Director Brendan Wiley said they are waiting until the zookeeper is well enough to explain what happened before they can fully understand how the attack occurred.

“With a human in his space, he did what a tiger would do,” Wiley said. “He will not be euthanized, he is actually out in his habitat today. For him life is somewhat normal. For our other staff here at the zoo yesterday was a little bit of a traumatic experience.”
