“I Smashed Him” – Florida Man Fights Coyote

Posted

LAKE COUNTY, FL – A Florida man did what he had to do to save himself, his dog, and his Fruitland Park neighborhood from an overly aggressive coyote.

Ben Pool says he hears coyotes all the time but he rarely sees them.

That all changed, however, on Friday.

“My dog and a coyote were standing face to face, fixing to go at it,” Pool said.

Pool was able to separate the two animals, then the coyote attacked him. He used what he had handy to fend for his life… a stainless steel coffee cup.

“He came at my legs, first, I smashed him in the side of the head with the cup. He came at me again, I smashed him again and then he jumped up at my face, when he did that I jumped back, smacked him in the side of the head, he screamed and he went down,” Pool said.

He managed to get himself and his dog up the street and home but says the coyote was relentless.

Desperate times called for desperate measures so Pool got his gun and went back for the coyote.

Pool was in his truck when the coyote tried attacking again. He planned to shoot him but instead ended up running the aggressive animal over a few times with his truck until it was no longer a threat.

State wildlife officers are not pursuing any charges for the action he took to kill the coyote.

Pool’s dog is getting frequent check-ups to make sure rabies is not an issue.
