SACRAMENTO, Calif – Many of those affected by the devastating Camp Fire lost everything in the fast-moving blaze earlier this month, but one family has a member of their family back.

For Laci Ping and her husband, they thought Mayson, a furry member of her family, was lost forever in the fire. However, Ping received a wonderful surprise days after the fire tore through Paradise, Calif.

Veterinarians at UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital received Mayson after he and 22 other cats were rescued from the fire area by firefighters.

Ping saw Mayson’s picture on social media and quickly traveled to go pick him up. The cat is being treated for burns on his paws, but is expected to recover.

Ping said Mayson is the sole bright spot during a very stressful time.
