COLORADO SPRINGS – If you rent your home, as 40 percent of people do in Colorado Springs, the city is holding two informational sessions for local renters.

For the first time, the Pikes Peak Library District will be teaming up with the city and Colorado Legal Services to present “Renter’s Rights 101.” The seminars will be led by local professionals to offer advice on how to avoid some of the most common problems faced when leasing.

“Like eviction, not getting your security deposit back, making sure you’re building credit, being a responsible tenant, and avoiding very preventable problems,” said Katherine Duarte of the Springs Community Development.

Pikes Peak Library District and Community Development staff will also provide local resources to all attendees on housing issues.

The first meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the First Congregational Church downtown. Another session will be held on October 10th at 6:30 p.m. at the Solid Rock Event Center.

Both sessions are free, but people are asked to RSVP on the city website because space is limited.
