ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – A federal grand jury has indicted five residents of a ramshackle desert compound in New Mexico on firearms and conspiracy charges.
Tuesday’s indictment says the defendants transported firearms and ammunition from Georgia to New Mexico in December 2017.
Prosecutors say the five established a training camp and firing range in Taos County, where they stored firearms and ammunition and engaged in firearms and tactical training as part of their common plan to prepare for violent attacks on government, military, educational and financial institutions.
Eleven children were taken into custody at the squalid compound near the Colorado border during an Aug. 3 raid by authorities.
Three days later, authorities returned to the scene and recovered the body of a severely disabled boy who they say was kidnapped in Georgia.
