(NBC News) A state of emergency has been declared in Charlottesville, Virginia ahead of this weekend’s one year anniversary of violent clashes that erupted during a white nationalist rally.

One woman died when a man rammed his car into a crowd of counter protesters.

The city is not issuing demonstration permits this weekend, but officials expect crowds will gather.

The same groups who were in Charlottesville last year are rallying in Washington, D.C. in front of the White House on Sunday.
