UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs is hosting its 37th annual NICU Reunion on Saturday July 28th at Boulder park just west of the hospital.  The annual gathering reunites doctors and nurses with many of the now growing kids and their families who they helped bring into the world.

Dr. Robert Kiley, a neonatologist with UCHealth Memorial says, “This is for anybody who has ever had a child come through our neonatal ICU.  Parents of patients who are currently here often times come, too, and we want everyone to come and reconnect with the staff who cared for them.”

Dr. Kiley is one of the many doctors and staff who families line up to say hello to and reconnect with.  “I have been going to these for 12 or 13 years now and it’s always a very happy joyous reunion. It’s about thanking each other for being part of each other’s lives, and everyone has a great time.”

It’s a free party, one that helps doctors and nurses stay in touch with families they have helped and to keep their daily work in proper perspective.

Dr. Kiley explains, “For the patients, it’s nice to connect with the caregivers who helped usher them into the first few days of their lives, sometimes in a very difficult, critical situation.  It allows everyone to reconnect in a more laid back setting and hang out, and have some food and drinks. The staff likely gets more out of it, because we get to see the fruits of our labor and see how these kids have progressed and how they have fulfilled their parents and caregivers lives.”

The NICU reunion is Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Click here for more information.
