A woman who was rescued from a flooded basement Tuesday night in Englewood, died from her injuries, according to a release from Englewood police.

Residents living upstairs in a home on South Acoma Street near West Tufts Avenue called 911 because part of the home was flooding during the severe storms that moved through the area and they were worried about their downstairs neighbor. They told authorities that they did not know if she was home.

Just before 7 p.m., Englewood Officers made their way partially into the basement where the water was rising toward the ceiling. They found the woman, who was unresponsive.

She was taken to Swedish Hospital for treatment, but died Wednesday morning, police said.

Englewood Police said the water was pumped out of the basement and officers searched the home but did not find anyone else inside.
