Colorado Springs Police arson investigators completed their investigation into the fire that caused fire, smoke and water damage to the Colorado Springs Airport last April.

Officers determined it was caused by the torching of tar and roofing materials adjacent to the third floor conference room on the roof of the airport on the night of April 16. The fire was ruled to be accidental.

Prosecutors are not expected to file criminal charges in connection the fire. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigators assisted in the case along with CSFD and CSPD.

Construction was happening on the roof of the building when the fire started.

The fire caused extensive water damage to the ticketing area of the airport, and forced the entire facility to close for one day. Contractors are continuing to work to fully repair the damage.
