Are you tired of the heat? If so, just wait a couple of weeks!
July is climatologically the warmest time of year in Colorado Springs. Our average temperature peaks at 85 degrees in the middle of July, and towards the end of the month we start seeing it fall by a degree or two. Now of course, we’re still going to keep seeing very hot days in July, August, and even September, but overall we should start seeing a gradual cooling.
The big reason we start to get cooler is the tilt of the Earth. During the summer the Earth is tilted towards the Sun, and during the Winter it’s tilted away from the Sun. We’re seeing longer days and a more direct sun angle, both of which give us the warmest days of our year. As we tilt away we’ll see shorter days and a less intense sun angle, resulting in cooler days.
