The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for areas west of La Veta and in the town itself.

The warning is in effect until 5:45 p.m.

As of Thursday morning the Spring Fire has burned more than 103,000 acres in Costilla and Huerfano Counties. Any rain in that area will help firefighters, but could create the chance for destructive flash flooding, debris flows and possibility for landslides in the area.

People in that area should be not drive or try to walk/swim across running water. If needed, move to higher ground to avoid the floods.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the Spring, Adobe & Chateau Fire burn scars through midnight. That watch also includes the Hayden Pass and Junkins Fire burn scars.
