Just after 8 p.m. Saturday night, fire crews responded to the popular wedding venue and lodge, Mary’s Lake Lodge in Estes Park.

Reports say that on arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flames protruding from the roof of the large establishment.

A spokesman for the town of Estes Park said a wedding was taking place inside at the time of the fire, but everyone was able to make it safely outside.

At one point during the blaze, more than 50 firefighters from multiple agencies were battling the flames. The roof collapsed over the main section of the building as crews worked.

According to the Estes Valley Fire Protection District, the fire was considered under control around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, but fire crews will remain on scene for several days to monitor hot spots.

Investigator returned to the scene Sunday to try and determine the cause and origin of the fire. There is no word on that yet.

Mary’s Lake Lodge opened in 1913 and is on the State Register of Historic Properties.
