Wednesday evening, CSPD officers observed a vehicle crash into a ditch in the area of Austin Bluffs and Academy Blvd.

Police said the lone male occupant exited the vehicle, assaulted a seemingly random person in a nearby parking lot, crossed the street and damaged another person’s windshield.

As officers attempted to restrain the man, he punched the windshield of a police cruiser and assaulted an officer.

CSPD said they then attempted to taser the man, but the taser proved ineffective.

When additional officers arrived on the scene, they were able to subdue the man and take him into custody. The man was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The assaulted officer was also treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Damien Pietraszek. He is facing multiple charges, including 2nd degree assault on a peace officer.
