The post office and the Colorado Mountain Bank in Westcliffe are closed due to a hazmat situation.

The Custer County Sheriff says that an envelope leaking an unknown white powdery substance was sent through the post office to the a box in use by the bank Tuesday morning. An employee found the suspicious mail while picking up letters this morning.

Employees of both places were exposed and are under quarantine until they can determine what the substance is.

Both the bank and the post office are closed while the incident is being investigated and people are asked to avoid the area.
