Ron Stallworth, the first black detective to join the Colorado Springs Police Department, is the center of an upcoming Spike Lee movie.

Detective Stallworth joined the Colorado Springs Police force in the 1970s, where he managed to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan.

The "BlacKkKlansman" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Monday night, where it received a six-minute standing ovation.

"There’s never been a black cop in this city. We think you might be the man to open things up around here," quoted from the movie.

The film stars actor Denzel Washington’s son, John David Washington, and was produced by Oscar winner Jordan Peele.

The movie is expected to hit theaters in August 2018.
