Fountain-Fort Carson is the latest in a growing number of school districts to cancel classes Friday in anticipation of a teacher rally at the state capitol.

In a statement posted on the district’s Facebook page, the district expressed its support for teachers who called off work.

"Many of our teachers are planning to join their colleagues around the state at a rally at the Capitol on Friday to call for increased education funding. As a district, we value our staff and we absolutely agree with the notion that education funding, to include teacher salaries, needs to improve in Colorado."

The closure also impacts all preschool programming. The day will be classified as a work day for staff who have not requested leave.

Normal school activities are expected to resume next Monday.
