The sloth may be one of the world’s slowest animals, but it certainly is a crafty little creature. After all, it has somehow managed to become an animal worthy of placement on everything from reading pillows to heating pads to the coveted pool float. Perhaps the only creature more popular than the sloth at this point is the unicorn.

And now, we’ve found yet another version of this cute and cuddly critter. With this crafty crocheted sloth planter, you can pretend that your living room is actually part of the sloth’s natural habitat. What an adorable addition to your home!

We found this little guy on Etsy, being sold by a variety of crafters. But, the original pattern comes from HELLOHappy from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Etsy seller has her own website where she used to sell these planters for $45 each. They sold out regularly. But with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she shut down sales so as not to risk her health or that of her customers with supply runs to yarn stores.

Being a creative crafter, however, HELLOHappy decided to make the crochet pattern available on Etsy for anyone who wanted to try their hand at stitching a sloth planter for themselves. For just $5, customers can get an instant PDF download of the pattern. The digital download also comes with step-by-step instructions and a full materials list of everything you’ll need to complete the project.

The seller recommends using either super bulky yarn or two strands of worsted weight yarn and a 6mm (size J) crochet hook. The finished project will fit a 2-inch to 2.5-inch diameter pot, which is pretty small.

HELLOHappy suggests finding a small succulent plant or finding a pot at a craft store to fit inside your new planter. Or you could simply fill the planter with whatever small items you’d like.

Either way, this little sloth will add some smiles to your home decor.
