Weather alert: high fire danger impacts Colorado

Today’s Forecast: Hot, dry, and windy is the story in Colorado today. Sunday is a First Alert5 Weather Alert Day due to high fire danger. All of the News5 viewing area, except Prowers and Baca county are under a Red Flag Warning from noon until 7 pm. We advise you to not burn anything outside and prevent causing sparks outdoors. Dispose of cigarettes properly. Temperatures will be over 10 degrees above average today.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High - 81; Low - 50. Sunny and warm with stronger winds in the afternoon, up to 45 mph.

PUEBLO: High - 88; Low - 53. Sunny and hot with gustier winds through the afternoon, up to 40 mph.

CANON CITY: High - 86; Low - 56. Sunny and hot with gusty winds through the afternoon, up to 50 mph.

WOODLAND PARK: High - 74; Low - 45. Sunny and nice with gusty winds in the afternoon, up to 50 mph.

TRI-LAKES: High - 70s; Low - 40s. Sunny and mild with stronger winds in the afternoon, up to 45 mph.

PLAINS: High - 80s/90s; Low - 50s/60s. Sunny and hot with strong wind gusts, up to 40 mph.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High - 80s; Low - 50s. Gusty this afternoon, with sunshine. Temperatures will be warm to the mid to upper 80s.

Extended Outlook: Monday means rinse and repeat weather. Another Red Flag Warning is in place tomorrow from noon - 7pm for the same areas. Temperatures may even be a few degrees warmer. Then cooler weather returns Tuesday-Thursday with a cold front that lingers in our area. More clouds start to move in Tuesday afternoon, and a few showers are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning for the I-25 corridor into the Plains.
