Labor Day weekend starts hot with isolated thunder

Today’s Forecast: A fitting forecast for the unofficial end of summer, with heat in store. Today a few isolated thunderstorms are possible, mostly along the front range mountains to the I-25 corridor. Storm motion will be from northwest to southeast. These are not expected to be as intense as the activity Friday, with severe weather parameters much lower. Temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees above average today.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High - 88; Low - 59. Very warm today to a high of 88. The sky will be partly cloudy, with a chance of thunderstorms between 2-6 pm. These will be hit or miss.

PUEBLO: High - 96; Low - 61. Hot, but staying out of the triple digits today. The sky will be partly cloudy, with a chance of thunderstorms between 3-7 pm. These are not expected to be severe.

CANON CITY: High - 94; Low - 62. Very warm today to the mid 90s,. The sky will be partly cloudy, with a chance of thunderstorms between noon-4 pm. These will be non-severe.

WOODLAND PARK: High - 79; Low - 50. Today will be very warm in Woodland Park and Teller county to the upper 70s. An afternoon shower or thunderstorm is possible.

TRI-LAKES: High - 80s; Low - 50s. Monument, Palmer Lake, and Woodmoor will be warm in the upper 80s today with plenty of sunshine. A thunderstorm may form off of Monument hill or the Palmer Divide and more southeast.

PLAINS: High - 90s; Low - 60s. After a humid and cloudy start, the day will become hot and dry. The Plains will be in the low to upper 90s this afternoon with sunshine. Most storms will stay west of the Plains today.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High - 80s/90s; Low - 50s. Hot to the upper 80s in Walsenburg and hotter in Trinidad to the mid 90s. The sky will be partly cloudy, with a chance of thunderstorms between 2-7 pm. These will be hit or miss

Extended Outlook: Sunday will be a few degrees warmer and even drier in our area. Temperatures will near record levels by Labor Day Monday in the Springs and Pueblo. Stay hydrated and wear sunscreen! After that, relief comes with a windy cold front on Tuesday, where we drop back to the 80s. Watch for rain as early as Tuesday evening and becoming more likely Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
