Today’s Forecast:
Areas of fog, mist, and drizzle today will lead into an afternoon with strong to severe storms across the eastern plains. Most of our mist and drizzle fell overnight, but easterly winds will still attempt to push light drizzle, fog, and mist into the I-25 corridor and especially east across the plains through the mid-morning hours. We should be dry across most of southern Colorado for lunch, with storms returning later today. Storms starting near Trinidad will push east along and south of highway 50, possibly being severe through Las Animas and Baca counties. The more widespread rain through the Pikes Peak area and plains will return tonight after 10 pm and last into Wednesday morning.

COLORADO SPRINGS: High – 58; Low – 43. Fog, mist and some drizzle in the morning with mostly dry but cloudy skies from the mid-morning through the afternoon. A stray afternoon and evening shower is possible but pretty unlikely. Moderate to heavy rain is likely after 10 pm through Wednesday morning.

PUEBLO: High – 65; Low – 48.  Areas of fog and drizzle are possible this morning with mainly dry skies from the mid-morning through the early afternoon. Storms are possible in Pueblo around 2 to 4 pm, but the more likely areas to see rain are east and south of town. Rain is possible again tonight after midnight to Thursday morning.

CANON CITY: High – 60; Low – 48. Fog, mist and some drizzle in the morning with mostly dry but cloudy skies from the mid-morning through the afternoon. A stray afternoon and evening shower is possible but pretty unlikely. Moderate to heavy rain is likely after 10 pm through Wednesday morning.

WOODLAND PARK: High – 54, Low – 35. Cloudy skies and mainly dry during the day today, even though there could be a few isolated showers in and around the surrounding mountains this afternoon. Rain is much more likely tonight after 9 pm through Thursday morning.

TRI-LAKES: High – 50s, Low – 30s. Fog, mist and some drizzle in the morning with mostly dry but cloudy skies from the mid-morning through the afternoon. A stray afternoon and evening shower is possible but pretty unlikely. Moderate to heavy rain is likely after 10 pm through Wednesday morning.

PLAINS: High – 60s, Low – 40s. Areas of fog, drizzle, and mist are likely in the morning with dry skies from the mid-morning to lunch. Storms will likely move east from the interstate today and stay mostly south of highway 50. Severe weather is possible, especially for Las Animas and Baca counties, with large hail and strong winds as the largest concern.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High – 60s, Low – 40s. Mostly dry in the morning with showers and storms possible around and just after lunch. Most of the rain in the region this afternoon will start near Trinidad and then quickly move east to the plains.

EXTENDED OUTLOOK:
Heavy rain with thunder and lightning will push through tonight and linger into Thursday morning across the plains. We will see periods of rain from the morning to the afternoon Wednesday, but the bigger focus is the snow coming Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Snow will start over the mountains and high terrain early Wednesday night and then drop down near 6,200 feet through Thursday morning. Monument Hill, Teller County and the southern mountains are the most likely areas to see moderate accumulation, but Colorado Springs is likely to see snow all over town, but with limited accumulation. Thursday morning is likely to have slow commutes, with more light snow Thursday night to Friday morning.

I’ll have snow maps generated with expected snowfall by tomorrow, it just seems irresponsible to throw out numbers right now since we still look to stay above freezing for most of the major towns.
