U.S. forces struck Iranian tankers Tuesday, in a response to new Iranian attacks against U.S. Navy vessels.

The new strikes come after the U.S. intercepted missiles it says was launched by Iran against a U.S. warship.

The exchange marks several days of back-and-forth attacks between the U.S. and Iran. U.S. Central Command on Saturday said it disabled two Iranian tankers in response to earlier missile attacks from Iran.

The U.S. says the tankers are part of a shadow fleet that is used to fund Iran and regional groups that it supports.
