ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — The driver of an 18-wheeler hauling large rocks was hit by an Union Pacific train in Adams County on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Aurora Police Department, the crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of E. Colfax Avenue and N. Peterson Road, which is between Watkins and Bennett and southeast of the Colorado Air and Space Port.

Aurora Fire Rescue (AFR) said the semi-truck was traveling northbound when it was hit by the eastbound train. The trailer was struck near the rear, causing it to flip over on its side.
The collision caused the trailer to become detached from the tractor, according to AFR.

The train did not derail due to the collision.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to AFR.
The track was temporarily closed as investigators assessed the damage. There were no major traffic impacts, police said.
