CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — Officials estimated more than 75 vehicles were involved in a crash that closed Interstate 70 near Loveland Pass and Eisenhower Tunnel on Tuesday afternoon, the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office said around 3 p.m.
No fatalities have been reported at this time, and 19 people are being taken to the hospital with "varying injuries," according to Colorado State Patrol.
CSP estimated the eastbound lanes would be closed for four to six hours. The right westbound lane was open and "moving slowly," while the left westbound lane was closed for medial staging, CSP officials said a little before 5 p.m., after officials said around 3:30 p.m. it would be closed in both directions for an investigation.
Colorado Department of Transportation said to expect delays in the area. The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of the highway near the tunnel, per CSP.
The crash came amid snowy conditions on mountain roads. Before the crash, around 12:45 p.m., the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office said there had been five crashes on I-70 west of mile marker 221 since 11:10 a.m.
