USAFA — Former Vista Ridge Wolverine Hunter Maldonado finally made his return to Colorado Springs on Saturday when Wyoming took on Air Force at Clune Arena.
"This year I was really excited when we were traveling on the bus down here just to see all my and family and play in front of everybody," said Wyoming red-shirt sophomore Hunter Maldonado.
If it's his brown tips or his average of 17 points per game, the Vista Ridge alum had been putting a show this year for the Wyoming Cowboys. On Saturday, the forwarded finished with 19 points against the Falcons.
"I mean I always think I am in a rhythm," added Maldonado.
But his path to Saturday's game hasn't been easy.
After a stellar freshman season, Maldonado had an injury plagued sophomore campaign that included a high ankle sprain, an MCL sprain and a herniated disc in his back that forced the Springs native into a red-shirt season.
But with patience comes perseverance and it all culminated Saturday afternoon as Hunter hit the eventual game winning three to give the Pokes the win in front of his hometown fans and family
"I have a lot of pride of where I am from. So me to able to play here, this is where I grew up watching basketball game. So just to be able to play here and get a dub my first time playing here its really exciting."
