With the sports scene coming to a complete halt due to COVID-19, News 5 Sports is getting creative and letting YOU, the viewers, vote on our top dunks, plays, passes, jerseys, etc of the year.
This week, we continue our Best of News 5 Sports with the 'Goal of the Year' from the high school hockey season.
Nominees:
Air Academy's Maddox Riewald
The Air Academy Kadets took on the Liberty Lancers in a high scoring affair this season. One of the Kadets goals came from Maddox Riewald, when he took a one-timer from the blue line and was able to beat the goalie. Air Academy would go onto win 7 to 6.
Rampart's Ethan Meyer
In a game between Air Academy and Rampart, the Ram's Ethan Meyer took a shot through worse traffic than we see on I-25 in rush hour on a Friday. Meyer's wrister would ring the red light as the Rams go onto win 8 to 4.
Pine Creek's Jonathan Cole
In most stores, the top shelf is where some of the best products are found. Well, when Pine Creek's Jonathan Cole went top shelf in the Eagles playoff game against Monarch, he put himself in the running for one of the best goals of the season. Cole's goal would give Pine Creek a lead they would not relinquish, beating Monarch 3 to 1 to advance to the quarterfinals.
