The No. 9 CSU-Pueblo football team used a tremendous defensive effort and timely scoring to shutout Augustana 17-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs at the Thunderbowl Saturday.
Leading 3-0 at halftime, the Thunderwolves padded their lead with touchdown runs by quarterback Gunner Lamphere and Nick Williams in the final two quarters.
It would be plenty for a CSUP defense that was in rare form on the afternoon limiting the Vikings to just 145 total yards while compiling five sacks and two interceptions.
With the win, head coach John Wristen's team will travel to MSU-Mankato to take on the Mavericks for the third straight season.
In 2018, CSU-Pueblo had their season come to an end at MSUM, falling 24-10. Kick-off is set for 12 p.m.
