Miami Dolphins say, Don Shula, the winningest coach in pro football history, has died at age 90.

The Dolphins announced his passing on Monday via Twitter.

"Don Shula was the patriarch of the Miami Dolphins for 50 years," the statement read. "He brought the winning edge to our franchise and put the Dolphins and the city of Miami in the national sports scene. Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Mary Anne, along with his children Dave, Donna, Sharon, Anne, and Mike."

Shula coached the Dolphins from 1970-1995 and led the team to a 17-0 record in 1972, which is the only perfect season in NFL history.

During his tenure as head coach, the Dolphins won two Super Bowls.

Shula is the all-time winningest coach with 347.
