NEW YORK — Former Mesa Ridge Grizzly Kylee Shook had her WNBA dream come true Friday night, as the former University of Louisville forward was selected 13th overall by New York Liberty.
A 2016 McDonald’s All-American from Mesa Ridge High under coach Jeff Beatty; Shook also earned WBCA high school All-America honorable mention accolades as a senior.
Tabbed a five-star recruit and the 17th-best player in the class of 2016, according to espnW Hoopgurlz, the Colorado native won a 4A state title for Mesa Ridge in 2014, the first state title in school history, and the 4A Colorado Player of the Year in 2015.
Shook finished her high school career as the state’s leading rebounder, with 1,299, boards and shot blocker, accumulating 620; the block total is 184 better than the previous record holder from 2003.
At the University of Louisville, Shook was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year, All-ACC First Team, All-ACC Defensive Team and a Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Finalist.
She averaged 10.1 points per game. 8.1 rebound per game and 2.7 blocks per game for the Cardinals this past season before March Madness was canceled due to COVID-19.
