There were three tremendous choices but fans voted overwhelming to crown Harrison's Makeah Scippio with the News 5 Sports "Defensive Play of the Year."
We rewind the clock to the beginning of November, the Panthers were well on their way to a 3A Southern League title as they hosted Sand Creek.
The Scorpions feeling the sting of the senior defensive end early and often as Scippio picked off quarterback Syncere Loftis and returned it nearly 40-yards for the touchdown. The Panthers would cruise to a 41-0 victory in a 9-2 season.
"It looked like it happened fast but it happened in slow motion," Scippio said. "Credit to my coaches they put us in the right spot, we knew it was a possibility. They told me to stay ready for it and I was being careful, saw him flip his hips and knew it was coming."
The defensive gem was one of many for the 6'4 200 lb. talent, who will continue his football career at CSU-Pueblo next year.
100% committed!!
