This week's Friday Football Fever: Game of the Week is no surprise as Pueblo South battles Pueblo East in the 45th edition of the Cannon Game.
"Our guys know what's at stake and at the same time they're grateful for the opportunity," South head coach Ryan Goddard said. "But then you have an inner-city rivalry and long-standing tradition in Pueblo football. Let's put all the chips out there and see what happens."
Due to inclement weather affecting practice schedules, this year's rivalry showdown has been moved to Saturday at Dutch Clark Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
After completing their "Return to Play" COVID-19 protocols, the Colts opened their season with a 41-0 victory against Pueblo Centennial.
Following a tough week 2 loss at Canon City, the Eagles rebounded nicely with a 26-12 win against Pueblo Central to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Both teams are playing good football heading into the matchup, which has been split between the programs the past two seasons.
"Classic Cannon Game, two teams that are going to fight for their community and side of town" East head coach Anthony Valdez said. "They want to play hard, physical football and it's going to be a dog fight. That's the way it is, the way it should be. We have a lot of respect for them, know it's going to be a tough task. But at the same time, we're focused, driven, and very motivated."
