COLORADO SPRINGS - The CHSAA high school football season officially gets underway next week across Colorado.

At the very top, the Colorado Springs area has two teams suiting up in Class 5A, Fountain-Fort Carson and Doherty.

Looking to build off a 7-4 season in which they advanced to the first round of the postseason, the Spartans expect to make a deeper run in 2019.

"We're a very tight knit group, have very good chemistry and can give anyone a run for their money," senior cornerback Hayden Ahrens said.

Up first for head coach Dwight Hale's squad is a trip to Cherry Creek to take on a tough opponent right out of the gate. Despite the fact, this veteran team isn't afraid by what stands in front of them.

"I think we're someone not to mess around with, lots of talent and skill," senior lineman Kevin Knebel said. "We're all bought into the program."

Kickoff for their first game of the season against the Bruins is Thursday night at 7 p.m.
