COLORADO SPRINGS - The Discovery Canyon football team is working hard on the big expectations they've set in 2019.

"Definitely excited for the most part, a lot of us veterans are coming back," senior quarterback Jonah Isakson said. "We got the nerves out last season, so a lot of us are ready to go."

The option-based Thunder attack returns key players at quarterback, running back, offensive line and on their defensive front as well.

Shawn Mitchell's team finished 9-3 last season, falling to Pueblo East in the Class 3A quarterfinals. A new season means a chance to make a new mark and this veteran team is excited for the opportunity.

"We're getting ready for a new season, it's finally our season, ya know," senior offensive lineman/linebacker Gage Clawson said. "We've been waiting around. We were freshmen, sophomores, juniors and now we're seniors. We've got a senior heavy squad, we're excited for the season to get rolling and we think we can be competitors."

Discovery Canyon opens their season next Friday night at Mountain View. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
