ENGLEWOOD — After a shaky 2018 season, the Denver Broncos are sticking with Garett Bolles at left tackle in 2019.

“Right now, Garett’s the starter," said head coach Vic Fangio, when asked about the former 1st round pick. "He’s the incumbent. Somebody’s got to knock him out kind of like a heavyweight championship. So far, he’s had a great camp. If we were to play today against Oakland, he’d be the starter hands down, unanimous decision.”

Boles will play in the Hall of Fame game on Thursday against the Falcons to get more reps.

Reason for Bolles' turnaround? New head coach Mike Munchak.

"i think one, he is a really good scheme fit," explained offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello when taking about Boles. "His athleticism helps in the run game. Two, I think Mike Munchak is a great teacher and great mentor. Every guy he has, he understands is different. Probably one of the things that Vic prides most in his coaching staff is guys that are natural teachers, creative, find ways to make guys better. I think that’s what Mike has done with him, and I think it has helped him, gave him confidence, and I think he is playing very, very well.”
