CSU-Pueblo remains undefeated on the road with win over Highlands

LAS VEGAS, NM — The CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves football team was back on the road this weekend, for the second straight week taking on the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys.

The Pack (5-1, 4-1 RMAC) defense and special teams totaled six takeaways to help guide the ThunderWolves to a 31-14 victory over Highlands.

The win now moves CSU-Pueblo to 3-0 on the road.

Thanks to 15 tackles for loss, which included six sacks, NMHU (0-5, 0-5 RMAC) finished with -68 yards rushing, a new program record for the defense. The Cowboys passed for 243 yards to finish with 175 total yards. CSU-Pueblo rushed for 184 yards and three scores and grabbed 261 total offensive yards.

On offense, running back D.J. Penick had 96 yards of total offense with 67 rushing and 29 through the air. He scored twice on the ground.

Next up for the Pack are two home games, the first of which is a homecoming contest against Colorado Mesa University, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.
