OMAHA — The Colorado College men's hockey team skated to a 3-3 draw with Western Michigan in their season opener, before gaining an extra point with a 2-1 shootout win.

Grant Cruikshank, Ben Copeland and Hunter McKown each tallied goals in the victory at the NCHC pod at Nebraska-Omaha's Baxter Arena.

Josiah Slavin and McKown scored in the shootout, while CC goalie Matt Vernon (33 saves) stopped three shots to give the Tigers the extra point in the NCHC standings.

Mike Haviland's team saw seven players make their college debut Tuesday morning in what was the Tigers first game action in nearly 10 months.
