COLORADO SPRINGS — The Air Force men's basketball team (4-9, 2-7 MWC) struggled out of the gates, and San Diego State (10-4, 4-3 MWC) made the most of their opportunities as they picked up a 98-61 win Friday night at Clune Arena.

A first half to forget, the Falcons saw their 6-5 lead quickly evaporate as the Aztecs went on a 22-0 run en route to a 52-16 lead at halftime. Air Force played their Mountain West foe closer in the final 20 minutes, however, the damage had already been done.

AJ Walker led the Falcons with 17 points on the night, while Ameka Akaya chipped in with 12.

The Aztecs had five players with at least 13 points on the night, including a game-high 18 from Jordan Schakel.

Game two of the series is Sunday, Jan. 24. The game tips at 8 p.m.
