COLORADO SPRINGS — There's no arguing that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has changed a massive portion of our daily lives.

In the midst of these changes, many local businesses are finding ways to overcome and adapt to keep their doors open, while at the same time, help those around them.

Similarly, businesses hit hard are reporting a tremendous outpouring of support from the community.

This outpouring reminding all of us that while this global epidemic has changed so much, it HASN'T changed people's desire for community.

This is We're Open Colorado, a segment dedicated to highlighting local businesses that are still open and finding unique ways to serve the community.

With all of this in mind, let's take a look at the healthcare heroes over at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital and the Springs local steakhouse that decided to give them an awesome Friday lunch.

Prime 25, hit hard by the COVID crisis like many restaurants , has faced reduced business in the past month. This has forced a reduction in staff and also the retention of a sizable amount of inventory that would go to waste if not used soon.

"We felt that it would be better for us just to give it away and to do our part in at least saying thank you to them," stated Chuck Schafer, owner of Prime 25.

The steakhouse has taken this opportunity to give back and support the healthcare workers over at Encompass Health. The plan involves donating and cooking up steak and chicken for the 160 Encompass Health employees.

"The way that this community has pulled together through this whole coronavirus, has been so heartwarming," commented Brandy Bartlett, an Encompass Health employee.

"That's what this is all about," finished Steve Schaefer, CEO of Encompass Health, "if there's one thing that we learned from this whole pandemic, [it's that] we can come together and do some amazing things together in this community."
