COLORADO SPRINGS — There's no arguing that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has changed a massive portion of our daily lives.
In the midst of these changes, many local businesses are finding ways to overcome and adapt to keep their doors open, while at the same time, help those around them.
Similarly, businesses hit hard are reporting a tremendous outpouring of support from the community.
This outpouring reminding all of us that while this global epidemic has changed so much, it HASN'T changed people's desire for community.
This is We're Open Colorado, a segment dedicated to highlighting local businesses that are still open and finding unique ways to serve the community.
With all of this in mind, let's take a look at Pies and Grinders, a local pizza shop that is working to donate pizzas to first responders and other essential workers that are on the front lines of this crisis.
Recently the pizza based organization started helping out the community by offering to sell, and in some cases donate, essentials that they had access to through their commercial vendors.
After hearing a need for meals for those working at fire departments, hospitals, police stations, and other essential jobs, they started donating pizzas as well.
Now the company plans to donate several pizzas every day from each of their locations to this cause. They plan to continue donating until everything returns to normal.
"We give back to the community that supports us," stated Dreyfuss, "in this business, the restaurant business, we understand that our paycheck is written by the guests; if nobody walks through our door we can't survive, we can't eat, we can't keep our employees employed and pay them. So giving back to the community has always been a big part of what we do. We've ramped it up now because of what's going on. the other side of it is, it allows us to keep all of employees employed, because we have more going on."
