COLORADO SPRINGS — During 2020, the Burrowing Owl Lounge, a Colorado Springs local vegan kitchen and bar, donated around $10,000 to nonprofit organizations, continuing their campaign of care that they believe in so firmly.
The Owl, owned and operated by Cody and Tyler Schiedel, works to combine a passion to promote a love for "all living beings" with an atmosphere that is friendly and familiar.
"We're dive bar people," commented Cody, "you can come in alone, you can come in with a group of friends; you know you're going to feel comfortable and you're going to feel safe. So, for us to have been able to build that and have these people come in every single day and say, 'we're not going to let you fail,' feels awesome."
According to the owners, the support of their regulars has really helped the Owl get through this past year.
"You see it still to this day, that people who are in a position to give more and they do, and it's amazing," stated Tyler.
Through it all, the organization has continued to give to a number of nonprofit organizations that promote a range of things from the arts, to public radio, animal care, and education.
"Cody and I, until we're broke, will do what we set out to do until we absolutely cannot do it anymore. It's not a ton that we give but we still want to do it, we know it's even harder for them."
Going forward into 2021, they plan to continue giving a portion of their proceeds to the groups they care about and hope others will support nonprofits that they find important.
