GRAND COUNTY, Colo. – Though the Spring Creek Fire burning south of Kremmling in Grand County has grown to 35 acres in size, evacuation orders were downgraded by Wednesday evening as fire officials reported fire behavior had stabilized.

The area along Highway 9 east of the Blue River was downgraded to a pre-evacuation status by 6:30 p.m., and Grand County Sheriff’s Office said residents in the area could go back to their homes to prepare in case evacuation orders are issued again.

The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post the initial evacuation orders were given due to hot and dry conditions and extreme fire behavior, and because of the fire’s close proximity to homes.

The Spring Creek Fire is burning the U.S. Forest land in Summit County very close to the Grand County line. Containment figures have not been provided as of Wednesday night.
