Mid-air collision kills two firefighters in Nevada's Bishop Fire

CALIENTE, Nev. — Two firefighters died Thursday a mid-air collision involving two Single Engine Air Tankers, or SEATs, on the Bishop Fire in Nevada.

It happened around 12:55 p.m. near Caliente, Nevada, about 120 miles north of Las Vegas.

Both pilots died in the crash. Recovery operations were underway Thursday and the pilots' families were being notified.

The crash is being investigated.

The Bishop Fire has burned around 14,000 acres since it started on July 29, and the Bureau of Land Management said it was caused by human action.
