Officials at Vance Air Force Base near Enid, Oklahoma, say two Airmen were killed while landing their T-38 training jet during a routine training mission. Their aircraft came to a rest upside down on the field after an impact with another T-38.

What exactly happened is unknown at this time. An Air Force safety team will be assigned to this incident.

Air Force officials say there are about 1,000 landings a day at Vance AFB. The names of those killed are being withheld for now by the 71st Flying Training Wing.

Vance AFB is 65 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. The T-38 Talon is a twin-engine, high-altitude, supersonic jet used in a variety of jet pilot training roles.
