PUEBLO, Colo. (KOAA) — The man who died in a crash after allegedly fleeing a domestic violence call in Pueblo has been identified.

According to the Pueblo County Coroner, he was 41-year-old Andrew T. Mendoza.

Background Information

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday when officers received a report of a domestic fight in the 800 block of Beulah Avenue, which is located near the Colorado State Fairgrounds.

According to the Pueblo Police Department, initial information indicated the man, later identified as Mendoza, left the area in a white SUV. Officers say they tried to stop Mendoza, but he drove off at a high rate of speed.

Officers say they did not pursue Mendoza, but got his license plate. They then went back to Beulah Avenue to investigate the initial incident.

The department says they later received a report of a crash at the intersection of West Northern Avenue and Van Buren Street, which is located near Mountain View Cemetery.

When officers arrived, they say the same SUV had crashed, and Mendoza had been ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

This was the seventh deadly crash in Pueblo this year, according to police.
