DENVER – History Colorado will start to reopen its eight statewide museums this week and next, including for a new John Denver exhibit at the History Colorado Center in Denver.

People will have to buy tickets and will have to adhere to social distancing rules under the reopening plans, and hands-on exhibits have been removed. Large group gatherings are still being held online.

The History Colorado Center will resume operations next Monday, June 22.

The Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center opens back up today; Fort Vasquez reopens on Wednesday, June 17; the Center for Colorado Women’s History at Byers-Evans House in Denver, the El Pueblo History Museum and Trinidad History Museum will open Friday, June 19; the Ute Indian Museum in Montrose opens Monday, June 22; and officials are still working to determine a date on when to reopen the Healy House Museum and Dexter Cabin.

Mondays at the History Colorado Center and Center for Colorado Women’s History at the Byers-Evans House Museum will be reserved for members only. But the other days of the week, the museums will be open to the public.

Starting June 22, the History Colorado Center will be hosting “The John Denver Experience.” And on June 29, a historical exhibit on Colfax Avenue will be on display. From July 6 – Jan. 10, “Hecho en Colorado,” an exhibit on Colorado’s Chicano/Mexican American community, will be on display. Exhibits on western brewing and the Negro League also continue.

“We are always eager to serve our fellow Coloradans, but especially in times like these where we have all pulled together with care for our community and state,” said History Colorado COO Dawn DiPrince. “This has been our commitment since the onset of this crisis. In that same spirit, we have thoughtfully planned safe and careful ways to re-welcome our guests this summer at all of our museums.”
