After several hot and dry weeks, an early September snowstorm crashed through Colorado, bringing several inches of snow to parts of the Front Range and more than half a foot at higher elevations.

The state isn't out of the woods yet regarding this winter-like weather. Light snow will continue to fall around the state Wednesday, though it will bring little additional accumulation to most places, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). However, the San Juan Mountains could see another six to 12 inches above 8,000 feet through Thursday.

Paired with bitter cold, record-tying temperatures, Wednesday's light snow will keep Denver metro area roads wet, and possibly slushy and icy.

A drastic warmup is coming this weekend, with highs in the mid and upper 70s Saturday and Sunday.
