ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — An Aurora man who pleaded guilty to stabbing his stepfather to death in 2017 and posting the aftermath of the killing on Snapchat was sentenced Monday.

An Arapahoe County judge sentenced Nickolas Vinson, who was 19 at the time of the killing, to 33 years in prison.

Vinson pleaded guilty last June to one count of second-degree murder for the death of Oscar Lemar Owensby, 50, at their home in Aurora.

He told Aurora police that he and Owensby were arguing earlier that day about household chores and money, and that he stabbed Owensby out of fear, the Associated Press reported.

Investigators said Vinson posted a Snapchat video of his mother screaming next to Owensby's body after the stabbing.

Vinson in October had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
